Why The Patagonia Mountaineering School?

  • Focused on Practical, Skills Based Learning. We place a lot of emphasis on learning and actual use of skills. We use a combination of sit down and practical classes to teach you these skills along the way, and then you get to use them throughout the expedition, in context, many times over, so your learning makes the transition from learning to knowing.
  • Small group size. We have a maximum of six students per trip. That means lots of individual attention.
  • Our Instructors. We love what we do. We are instructors because we think it’s the best job in the world and because we get to take people to amazing places and teach them skills to undertake a lifetime of wilderness adventures. We're all climbers in our off time, honing our craft all over the world. Also, we are all certified Mountaineering Guides, Wilderness First Responders, and certified Leave No Trace practitioners.
  • The Mountains and Glaciers of Patagonia. The Patagonian Ice Cap is an incredible classroom, home to some of the most remote, challening, and breathtaking scenery on Earth.
  • Expeditions in Style. Part of being a good expedition member is learning how to take care of other people and looking after the environment. To that end, you will receive basic first aid and Leave No Trace instruction on all of our expeditions.
  • Strong Commitment to Safety. We balance pushing towards a goal while keeping personal and group safety at the forefront of everything we do.
